Gothenburg Art Ensemble

Gothenburg Art Ensemble is a platform for new music for large ensemble and big band. This is a project initiated by Malin Wättring & the drummer and composer William Soovik.

In 2022 Malin Wättring & William Soovik started the project Gothenburg Art Ensemble. They put together the first edition of the band and wrote 60 minutes music each for them. The orchestra consists of 19 acclaimed musicians, most of them based in Gothenburg. They worked together for a week at Atalante and played two sold-out concerts. The swedish national radio recorded the concert and played it in Jazzradion in the spring of 2023. In 2024, the orchestra was invited to be a part of the Big Band series at Fasching, Stockholm initiated by the singer and composer Lina Nyberg.

The long-term vision for GAE is to be a permanent platform for newly written music for larger ensembles and big band that can engage many different freely active musicians and composers. Every other year we want to invite a new composer that lives and works in Gothenburg, that get to put together their own version of Gothenburg Art Ensemble and write music for it. Each edition of the project shall result in a concert and recording.
